Senate Showdown

A bipartisan group of U.S. senators has urged the DOJ and FTC to investigate Formula One Management (FOM) for blocking Andretti-Cadillac's entry into the F1 Championship series. Despite meeting the FIA's stringent criteria and advancing to commercial negotiations, FOM deferred their entry until 2028, citing concerns about non-competitive performance and the use of a customer power unit from Renault.

Senator Todd Young stated, "It's critical we ensure fair competition not only on the track but also in the global automotive market." Meanwhile, Senator Amy Klobuchar highlighted, "The exclusion of Andretti Formula Racing, LLC, raises significant antitrust concerns that we cannot ignore."

With FOM's decision looming large, the senators' call reflects growing concern over competitive practices in Formula 1, particularly as the sport seeks to expand its American audience, which has more than doubled in viewership recently. The stakes are high, and the outcome could shift the future dynamics of the world’s premier motorsports competition.
