Ricky Stenhouse Jr. - The defending Daytona 500 looks to repeat his superspeedway success this weekend in Alabama. He's done notoriously well at superspeedway racing and this weekend in Dega should be no different.

Trending Down 📉

Ryan Blaney - Blaney and the no. 12 Penske Racing crew have had a luke-warm start to the season. He's only broken the Top-20 once in the past four races with his 7th place run at Martinsville.

Dillon gets Docked

NASCAR has imposed an L1 penalty on Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and its No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Austin Dillon. Following inspection of the car, NASCAR found a violation relating to the 'Underwing Assembly Mounting & Underwing Stay Assembly Hardware' section of the rulebook. As a result, the team has been fined $75,000, while Dillon has been penalized 60 driver and owner points, as well as five playoff points. Crew chief Keith Rodden has been suspended for the next two championship events. RCR has stated that it plans to appeal the decision. There were also penalties for other teams in the Xfinity Series.

Elliott Excited for the Challenge

Chase Elliott, NASCAR's most popular driver, has conceded he will need a win to make the 2023 Cup Series playoffs, as he missed six races after suffering a fractured tibia in his left leg. Although technically he could still claim one of the 16 playoff spots by points, he says it will be incredibly tough to do without a win.

Elliott, however, is excited about the challenge and is embracing it with his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports team. Elliott owns two career wins at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, site of this weekend's race, and has also performed well at Dover (Del.) Motor Speedway, site of next week’s race.

“We’re really embracing it as a group and I’ve embraced it on my end. I’m excited about the challenge, really. It’s kind of unique and fun – you either win and you’re in or you don’t and you fail. I kind of like it.”

Audi Accelerates F1 Program

Audi is set to run a full power unit on its test benches by the end of 2023 as the German carmaker prepares to enter Formula 1 as a full constructor in 2026. Audi has already established its F1 team, partnering with Sauber for its works entry, and confirmed that it expects to have more than 300 staff working on the project by the end of this year. The core of the team comprises experienced Audi and Audi Sport employees with expertise in electric motorsport, along with specialists with Formula 1 expertise who have been sourced externally.

Schumacher Interview Debunked

German magazine Die Aktuelle faced heavy criticism for publishing what it initially described as an interview with Michael Schumacher, but later indicated was actually a conversation with an artificial intelligence program. Schumacher has not been seen or heard from since his 2013 skiing accident, and his family has been protective of his privacy. The magazine's decision to mislead its readers has been described as cruel and insensitive and as a result has been under heavy fire on social media.

Stewards Shunt Sainz

Ferrari's petition for a right of review of Carlos Sainz's penalty in the Australian Grand Prix has been dismissed by the stewards. Sainz was given a five-second time penalty for hitting Fernando Alonso on the final race restart, resulting in a demotion from fourth place to 12th. Ferrari argued that new telemetry data, a witness statement from Sainz, and other drivers' statements were significant and relevant new elements, but the stewards dismissed the petition and upheld the penalty.

Toxic Twitter

Following the Long Beach Grand Prix, several IndyCar drivers and their loved ones faced a barrage of online abuse, including death threats. The situation began after an on-track sequence involving Callum Ilott, Agustin Canapino, Pato O’Ward, and Scott Dixon. Ilott was blamed for Canapino’s car damage and faced severe online criticism, while contrasting views between O’Ward and Dixon led to further social media ugliness. Ilott later criticized an IndyCar commentator for blaming him for Canapino’s troubles. IndyCar has since issued a statement condemning the online abuse, and O’Ward has called for a restoration of civility.
