Kyle Capitalizes on Last Lap Chaos

Kyle Busch was victorious at Talladega Superspeedway after Bubba Wallace, who was leading on the final lap, was hit by Ryan Blaney and triggered a multi-car wreck, ending the race under caution. Busch, who led for a total of three laps, including the final one, was declared the winner. The win is the second of the 2023 season for Busch and his first win at Talladega since 2008. Blaney stated that Wallace's move to block on the final lap was one time too many which ended up wrecking himself from the lead.

Burton Brings it Home in Dega

Jeb Burton won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Talladega Superspeedway. Burton emerged as the leader after a four-car wreck on Lap 111 that placed the race under its second red flag of the day and sent it to overtime. Debris on the track sent the race into a second overtime, and this time, Burton easily pulled ahead of Sheldon Creed and held him at bay by 0.113 seconds to earn his first win of the 2023 season. Parker Kligerman finished third, Cole Custer was fourth and collected the $100,000 Dash4Cash bonus, and Brennan Poole rounded out the top-five.

NASCAR Nixes Next-Gen Modifications

NASCAR will remain committed to enforcing its deterrent model for teams that modify its Next Gen car. The sport has issued eight penalties to teams this season for unapproved modifications, compared to relatively few during its debut year. NASCAR is committed to ensuring an equitable business model around Next Gen to make it sustainable, unlike the previous Gen-6 model. The new car incorporates many common parts made by over 30 single-source suppliers, so NASCAR has to police teams that modify the components to maintain a level playing field. It's essential to enforce the deterrent model as the Next Gen car is part of a strategy to reduce teams' costs.

Too Much of a Good Thing? F1's American Dream

In a recent article, WTF1's Dre Harrison ponders whether Formula 1 exploiting the American market as it expands its presence in the United States. With four US GPs on the bill in the future, F1 could be seen as milking the American audience dry. Although F1 has had a big shot in the arm across the pond, F1 might be exploiting the good faith the American market has given them so far, as seen with Miami's raised ticket prices off the back of their success last year and Las Vegas GP's astronomically expensive admission. The true test of the US expansion is about to begin - will the new fans brought in from all the hype stick around when all the gloss wears off.

Ricciardo Ready for Return with a Top Team

Daniel Ricciardo has said that his lack of interest in returning to Formula 1 with certain teams does not come from an arrogant place. The driver is only interested in a front-running seat, and doesn't want to start from zero and build his F1 career from scratch. Ricciardo has rediscovered his confidence at Red Bull and his return to the team has gone better than expected, helping him recover from a tough spell at McLaren. He has said that since Abu Dhabi in 2022, he spent three months doing no race driver things, but the first day back at Red Bull in the simulator was the most fun he has ever had driving a simulator.

“I would honestly say in a day my confidence went from being probably pretty low to back at the levels I remember being at. It was a good day. And I think just having that time off just gave me a chance to, in a way, forget a little bit of the last two years. Just go in there with a fresh mind.”

No Rest for the Wicked (Fast)

Aston Martin's improved performance in Formula One has made race weekends "more enjoyable" but also "more challenging" for the team, according to Sporting Director Andy Stevenson. Despite claiming three podium finishes in three races with new signing Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin has had to become more focused and stay on top of their game since improving to a more competitive position in the constructors' standings. Stevenson added that the team was still using similar processes and had to extract maximum performance from the car and team, but now couldn't afford even the slightest error.

Return to the Racing Capital of the World

Josef Newgarden was the fastest driver on the first day of testing for the Indianapolis 500, achieving a lap time of 227.686mph, followed by Scott Dixon and Conor Daly. The drivers faced challenging conditions with strong headwinds and gusts of up to 30mph. The second day of testing was canceled because of heavy showers. Defending champion Marcus Ericsson was the busiest driver, completing 120 laps in his Chip Ganassi Racing car.
