Chastain's 'Hail Melon' Banned in 2023

NASCAR has announced changes to its rules for the 2023 season, including the addition of wet weather tires for some oval tracks, and a ban on future "wall-rides" like the one made by Ross Chastain in the 2022 season.
The wall-ride maneuver, which gained notoriety and excitement, was deemed unsafe by NASCAR and will be penalized in the future. Other changes include the elimination of the top-30 in points requirement for playoff eligibility, allowing all drivers who attempt every race to participate. These changes come after a highly competitive 2022 season that saw drivers outside the top-30 in points come close to winning races.

Garage 56 Lights up the Track in Daytona
Jenson Button joined Hendrick Motorsports for his first seat time at Daytona in a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which the team will take to Le Mans 24 Hours in June. Project leader Chad Knaus praised Button for being a useful addition to the team due to his previous high-level international racing experiences but noted his height as a challenge in driver changes with shorter team members. Button was impressed with the size and scale of the Hendrick facility in Concord, NC and is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge about European racing. Knaus described Button's addition to the roster as a perfect mixture for the team's Le Mans representation.
“When it started, we wanted to have guys or gals who we considered to be elite. We’ve talked to a lot of different drivers, from a lot of different genres, and ending up where we did is a perfect mixture that you could ever ask for to go drive this thing and represent NASCAR at Le Mans.”
Clash
The NASCAR 2023 Cup season will start this weekend in Los Angeles at the Memorial Coliseum, with the Busch Light Clash. Joey Logano, the reigning champion, will be looking to defend his win, while Kyle Busch will start with his new team, Richard Childress Racing. Last season, there were 19 different winners in 36 races, with parity being the name of the game due to the NextGen car leveling the playing field. Some big names failed to win, and will be looking to rebound, while new teams and rookies are expected to emerge.
The top three finishers in the main event will receive medals featuring the Clash at the Coliseum logo and the NASCAR 75th Anniversary logo, with the winner's medal being 24-karat gold-plated and weighing 4.7 ounces.
A one-of-a-kind event deserves a one-of-a-kind format. Take a closer look on how the field will line up this weekend.

Horner States Penalty is Having a Negative Impact on Team
In an interview with RACER, Red Bull's Team Principle, Christian Horner, claims that the cost cap penalties handed to Red Bull by the FIA last year are affecting the team's car development for 2023. Red Bull was fined $7m and had its wind tunnel and CFD time reduced after being found guilty of a minor overspend. Horner said the restrictions are limiting the amount of tests that can be conducted, and it is a challenge for the team, but they are trying to mitigate the impact as much as possible. Horner supports the principle of the cost cap, but feels that there are still areas that need to be addressed as teams and power unit manufacturers gain experience. He also thinks that too much weight is put on the cost cap and there needs to be more focus on the cost drivers in technical regulations.
“I think that the regulations are still very immature, they’re only in their second year. So they’re still evolving, and being tuned and as they’re being introduced into the power unit side of the business as well – I think principally, it is a good thing for Formula 1, and it does create a more level playing field – I think there’s certain elements that still need to be to be tuned."

Mick Schumacher will serve as a reserve driver for McLaren as part of its technical partnership with Mercedes. Schumacher joined Mercedes after being dropped by Haas and is the only confirmed backup for the team. Previously, McLaren had two options in Nyck de Vries and Stoffel Vandoorne, but de Vries has since been given a race seat at AlphaTauri while Vandoorne joined Aston Martin as a reserve. McLaren previously had an agreement with Alpine to use Oscar Piastri, but he became a target for a race seat and was signed to partner Lando Norris.

Casey Kirwan made headlines at the 70-lap eNASCAR Clash at the Coliseum, proving that the XSET driver is a force to be reckoned with. Despite a few roadblocks (a.k.a cautions), Kirwan held firm against a late-charging Garrett Lowe and claimed the checkered flag. Meanwhile, in the undercard event (consolation race), eRacr’s Collin Bowden and Kollin Keister showed off their driving skills, with Bowden bringing the 69 car in 9th and Keister finishing a solid 7th, last to transfer to the main event. But the real highlight was Keister's epic 22nd to 8th place finish in the main event after driving the 42 car up to 7th before slipping back one position late. Get ready to gear up and join the next eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series event on February 14th, where virtual Daytona awaits!
