More Cost Cap Chaos

The Formula 1 cost cap 🧒 investigation is in no rush, says the FIA, despite swirling rumors and requests for expedited results. πŸ•’ While F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has expressed his desire to finalize the investigations, stating it's the best way to quell speculation - "Control is in the hands of the FIA.", the FIA emphasizes the importance of thoroughness over speed. πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

Many teams were asked about their cost cap spending πŸ’° last week, but Toto Wolff, Mercedes team principal, praised this as evidence of a robust process: "It's good. Strong auditors are beneficial for F1...".

Domenicali suggests sporting penalties, not financial sanctions, for any team breaching the cost cap: "You can't go in other directions." So, until the audits are concluded, speculation is the only winner here. πŸ†

Post-Pocono Powwow

Pocono Raceway saw a flurry of incidents this weekend and it seemed that everyone was pretty much mad at everyone… 😑 NASCAR officials aren't taking these issues lightly. Elton Sawyer, NASCAR's SVP of Competition, mentioned on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that officials will engage in chats with drivers Austin Dillon, Tyler Reddick, Ryan Preece, and Corey LaJoie. However, no penalties are expected. Sawyer has already spoken with Joey Logano about his grievances related to delayed towing after a flat tire incident.

Series officials backed Denny Hamlin's racing tactics against Kyle Larson, who finished 20th as Hamlin went on to win. 🏁 Commenting on this, Sawyer said, "We have two of the greatest race car drivers...they're future Hall of Famers, and we're seven laps to go and they're both doing everything they can to win the race."

Logano, meanwhile, has suggested equipping safety vehicles with spare tires,πŸ›ž but Sawyer noted the idea is "pretty far down the priority list" due to practicality issues.

Bring Back the Bullrings

IndyCar fans are longing for more short-oval stops. The return to Iowa Speedway in 2023 was a hit, with its intense 250-lap races triggering fond memories of IndyCar's golden age. In '93, 25% of the season was spent on short ovals like Phoenix, Milwaukee, and Richmond. Fast forward to today, and we're left with only two: Iowa and St. Louis.

"We need more ovals. But the right ovals," said Bud Denker, Penske Corporation president. "The oval piece is what differentiates us from anything else in the racing world."

Rumor has it that Milwaukee Mile might make a return, and the World Wide Technology Raceway could host a doubleheader. πŸ”„ With more regional promotional partners like Hy-Vee and GM, these classic thrills might come roaring back.

"Give me 10 more event partners like GM and Hy-Vee, and we can leverage this model and replicate it elsewhere." Denker added. Is it time for a short-oval revival? πŸ”„πŸ”πŸ
