🏎 Breaking Barriers: FIA Lowers Age for Super License

17-year-olds can now earn a Super License at the FIA’s discretion

Good morning! Did you know? American driver Dan Gurney, the 1967 Le Mans winner, started the champagne shower tradition! Inspired by an accidental cork pop the previous year, Gurney shook his bottle and sprayed the crowd, creating a lasting sports celebration tradition. 🍾

Youth Movement: FIA Lowers Age for Super License

The FIA has made a surprising amendment to the Super License system. Now, drivers like Andrea Kimi Antonelli can participate in practice sessions before turning 18. The amendment to Appendix L of the International Sporting Code removes the requirement for drivers to hold a valid driving license when applying for a Super License. 17-year-olds can now earn a Super License at the FIA’s discretion.

"At the sole discretion of the FIA, a driver judged to have recently and consistently demonstrated outstanding ability and maturity in single-seater formula car competition may be granted a Super License at the age of 17 years old."

This change opens doors for young talents and could see Antonelli replacing Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in 2025. Antonelli, currently sixth in Formula 2, has already secured enough points through his impressive performances in Formula 4 and Formula Regional championships.
