Hamilton and Verstappen Are a Go for an Expanded Grid

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen are all 👍 for Andretti's push into the sport, despite a 👎 from their team bosses and other F1 elites. The two veterans aren’t shy about their approval, even as the majority of teams clutch to the classic 10.

Hamilton is all for expansion: “Yeah, I think it’s great. I’ve always felt there wasn’t enough cars on the grid. It opens up more possibilities, and I think it would be more exciting for the race.” Verstappen echoes the sentiment, though he’s well aware of the business end of the stick. “I speak from the driver’s side, but of course I’m not a team owner, so I can understand their side.”

While the drivers are ready for a grid that’s a bit more crowded, Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll and others are hesitant to shift from the status quo. But, Andretti’s application getting the nod from the FIA has opened up the real possibility of two more seats on the grid.

As the F1 bigwigs mull it over, the rest of us wait in anticipation. However, the verdict won’t come until after the current season.
